The different types of eyebrow makeup products

Making your eyebrows look good can be time-consuming, but once you have mastered it, you will love the definition it gives to your face, and the way it frames and highlights your eyes. There are different types of eyebrow makeup products for you to choose from.

You can use anything, from the eyebrow pencil to pomades, gels, and wax, or powder to highlight your eyebrows. This article discusses the features of each of these products.

  • Eyebrow pencil

The pencil is the most commonly used eyebrow makeup product. It is the easiest product to use for a beginner. It gives precise control, and can be used to create the base on which other eyebrow products like eyebrow powder can be added. To use the pencil, begin from the middle with light strokes, and move towards the outer edges, after which you can cover the inner edge. Eyebrow pencils are usually cream-based or powder-based formulations. Pencils can be used to define the shape of the brows, thus emphasizing the arch.

  • Eyebrow powder

Eyebrow powders are ideal to fill in gaps in the eyebrows, and to add depth when you have sparse brows. Use a pencil to first define the shape of the brows, then fill it with powder using a slanted brush. Once you have filled in the powder, use an eyebrow brush and sweep along the direction of hair growth to lock in the powder and to make it smooth, aligning with the shape of the brows. Avoid using powder if you have dry skin.

  • Eyebrow pomade

Eyebrow pomades help create intense looks. Pick up a little on a slanted brush, and apply it using soft short strokes from the middle of your brow. Gradually spread it to the rest your brow and then smoothen it using a spoolie. Pomades can help add layers to sparse brows.

  • Wax

Wax eyebrow makeup products can help tame coarse hairs on the eyebrows, including grey hairs. You can use a wax stick or get it in a box and use a small brush to apply it. The wax should be applied at the bottom of the brow to smoothen the hair. You can then blend it in using a brush, which helps in taming hair, adding color and defining the shape.

  • Gel

Gel is easy to use, and it helps smoothen your brow, add depth, define the shape, and also seal the makeup. Take some gel on a spoolie, tap to get rid off excess gel. Using soft strokes, brush it in against the hair growth direction. This fills the gel in at the base, and also lifts up the hair to coat them well. Once you have gradually filled it in your brows, use a clear brush or spoolie to brush in the direction of hair growth to smooth out the brow.

Eyebrow makeup helps add depth and definition to your brows. Use a pencil to create a light outline, and to guide the application of any eyebrow makeup product you use. Use powders if you have oily skin, and use waxes and pomades to tame coarse dense hairs. Gels can also be used as the finishing touch.
